It was a random Wednesday afternoon. Blessing stood at the balcony, lost in thought. It was her 22nd birthday tomorrow, and she felt like she was on the edge of something big, something exhilarating, but also terrifying. The world seemed to be spinning as fast as a carnival ride, and she couldn't quite grasp what was happening. She was an adult now, and everyone expected her to have it all figured out.
“What am I doing?” she whispered to herself, the wind whipping her hair around her face. The weight of expectations felt heavy on her shoulders. She was just turning twenty-two tomorrow, and her parents were already asking about her plans for the future. “What kind of job do you want?” “Are you dating anyone?” “When are you going to settle down?” The questions came like a barrage, each one a little jab at her uncertainty.
She wished she could just go back to being sixteen, when life was simple and carefree. She remembered those days with a pang of nostalgia, when her biggest worry was what to wear to the school end-of-year party. Now, the world was a complex maze, and she felt lost in its winding corridors. She wanted to be happy, to find her purpose, but she couldn't shake the feeling that she was still figuring it all out.
As she gazed at the sky, she realized that the clouds had started forming, signifying that rain would soon start falling. That's when a thought crossed her mind, “Inasmuch as I am relentless in my daily pursuit of improvement, I don't think anyone's opinion matters.”
She eagerly grabbed her laptop, determined to learn everything she could about becoming a professional educationalist. She knew that her journey was just beginning. She was ready to embrace the unknown, to find her own path, and to create her own story. She was an adult, and she was ready to take on the world.
Fifteen years later, Blessing became the most sought-after educationalist in her country. She had won many awards, married a medical doctor, and was blessed with two kids.
In her interview with a broadcasting company, she said, “I was once an adult who was put under a lot of pressure. The world of adulthood was so harsh and unforgiving. Nobody wants to hear your sad story anymore. You are no longer that fourteen-year-old girl who needs saving. But the day I realized that if you work according to all those pressures, you would fail as an adult, I started changing my perspective about life, and here I am, all fulfilled. My dear listeners, do not fall victim to the adulthood pressure. Stand tall and follow your own path.”
